- Workers Protests for Legitimate Rights
A new wave of workers strikes broke out during the past days in different economic industrial and service sectors. Although everyone recognizes the fair demands of the striking workers some people repeated the same old accusations both after and before the revolution. Some people described the workers as stooges and said that the workers strikes are but a part of a foreign plot to invoke instability and that it is not the time for such ‘categorical’ demands. Far from these venomous accusations which do not provide solutions but make matters more complicated, we will review the facts of some of the most important strikes and their causes. Then we will reach a number of the outputs of these strikes.

The year 2013 witnessed unprecedented violations of trade union freedoms and rights both quantitatively and qualitatively. Quantitatively, there was a big increase in security confrontations against the workers’ protests calling for the minimum legalized rights such as the right to work, the right to fair wages and similar rights. Confrontations took a semi daily character. There was an increase in judicial prosecutions of trade union leaders.
- One Year Of Trade Union Freedom Violations During Morsi’s Regime
One year has passed since Mohamed Morsi accede the presidency of the republic while Egyptian workers are still awaiting the fulfillment of his promises to realize social justice. All what the workers get from the president and his group is their concern with a file to empower the brotherhood and strengthen its involvement in the state institutions without the slightest attention to the workers and their living conditions.
- Egyptian Workers After June 30
The independent labor movement that has flourished in Egypt since the ouster of former president Husni Mubarak enthusiastically supported the Tamarrud (Rebel) campaign for the huge June 30 demonstrations asserting a popular vote of no confidence in President Muhammad Mursi. The Center for Trade Union and Workers Services (CTUWS), Egypt’s most experienced (and during the 1990s only) labor-oriented NGO, claims to have gathered 200,000 signatures for the Tamarrud petition through its six regional offices. Three independent trade union organizations -- the Egyptian Federation of Independent Trade Unions (EFITU), the Egyptian Democratic Labor Congress (EDLC) and the Permanent Congress of Alexandria Workers (PCAW) -- also collected signatures and monitored workers’ participation in the demonstrations.

The Egyptian Center for Women’s Rights (ECWR) & the Parliament of Defending Women’s Rights denounce the poor female representation in the formation of the 50-member Committee which is 10%.
